She has many siblings: Rob (half brother) Dave (half brother, deceased) Pat (half sister) Jon (half brother, deceased) Linda Mike Evelyn (step sister) Carol (step sister Fred (step brother).
She also has a step mother Ruth, three children, Ted, Hans, and Anna-Marie, and one granddaughter, Devon. Barb had always wanted to go to Alaska so, in June 2007, she left Michigan and travelled the Al-Can with her daughter to her new home. Anna-Marie spent a couple weeks in Alaska, then returned to the lower 48 for college. Shortly after arriving, Barb met Larry at Denali National Park through mutual friends. They next time they spoke, Larry mentioned that he attended University Baptist Church. As Barb was still looking for a church home, she stopped by and spoke to his mom who is the church secretary. She joined the church soon afterwards. Barb and Larry became good friends, often chatting after church until 9:30 p.m. (or later) and cleaning the church kitchen together every Sunday. Shortly before Christmas 2008, Barb asked Larry to go to her work Christmas party, which he accepted. He asked Barb to spend Christmas day with him and his family, which she accepted. It wasn't long afterwards that they knew God intended for them to marry. Larry RobertsLarry Curtis Roberts was born in St. Joseph's Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska just before the city was hit with an earthquake, followed two months later by a major flood. His mother, Ann, and father, Dee, still live in the house bought just before his birth, where flood waters had reached the four foot mark inside. Larry has four siblings: Of the above, all but David still live in Fairbanks, although both Deanna and Larry spent time "outside" in the Air Force. David spent time in the Marines and now lives with his wife, Jen, in Arizona. Larry was stationed in the state of Washington when he was in the Air Force. Also in Fairbanks are Larry's uncle David (mother's side) and his wife Cathy. Their children are Joshua, Carolyn, and Jimmy. Carolyn and Jimmy are both married with children. Another uncle, Chris (& Joni) lives about 20 miles away, in the North Pole area where his mom grew up, and where they care for Horace, his mom's father. Chris' brother Michael is retired and roaming the US in a motor home. His aunt Connie and her children Vicky (husband Rob & son Robbie), Tina (husband Bill, daughter Lindsey, & son Logan) and son Terry live in Pennsylvania. On his father's side both grandparents are deceased, and his uncle Don as well. His uncle Van lives with his wife Carolyn in Washington. All their children are grown. Larry still worships in the church he joined as a child, sings in the choir, and is a teacher's assistant for preschool. He is active in VBS each year (arranging vacations from work around it) and acts as expeditor for the church. He has also been (for several years now) giving up his Saturdays to help his brothers and sister who have taken on the project of remodeling his parent's home into a duplex to provide them a retirement income. With their parents, they also often alternate work days among family members who most need them, so that everyone's home benefits. With Larry that means he received help with the large storage shed he has been building, with David and Jen, the Fairbanks home they are now attempting to sell, and for Lance, the house he is trying to make more energy efficient for sale. |
